Genre Research - Action

Hey world, it's Aniyah! In this blog I am going to present the research for the genre of action.

  • Common CAMS- Common angles, shots, and movements that are used are the tracking shot, crane shot, dutch angle, medium shot, and establishing shot.
  • Common sounds- Common sounds are non-diegetic sounds, diegetic sounds, and incidental music
  • Common Mis-en-scene - The costumes the actors usually wear can vary depending on the movie. They could wear outfits that make them look like a supernatural being. They could wear old clothing from old time periods such as the 60's or 80's. They could also wear clothing that is common in this time period. Commonly, there is a lot of low key lighting in action films. Usually there is always a hero and a bad guy in action movies. The makeup varies among the type of action movie. The makeup could be natural to the actor's face or it could be exotic depending the character. The props usually consist of weapons such as guns, large vehicles such as helicopters and cars. The setting is usually in big cities with large buildings and landscapes.
  • Editing techniques- techniques such as cross cuts and cutaways are commonly used.
  • Examples of action films- Mulan, Bad Boys, and Birds of Prey
  • Elements I like are the suspenseful conflicts.
  • Elements that do not appeal to me is the low lighting.
